Nic Brown My first encounter with Body Boys was on last year's brief but brilliant "No Face" album for Opal Tapes which, while by no means revolutionary was a bewitching, non-formulaic techno album is at a time when the 4 to the floor thud was becoming a little too ubiquitous for its own good. "Terms" is a different beast altogether though. Body Boys' techno has been kitted out in full dub regalia and the result is a superb album of lightness and shade that wrings huge amounts of emotional gravitas from "Terms"'s rococo percussion and shimmering clouds of reverb. I honestly thought dub techno was an art form that had died unobtrusively on the vine. This year alone, John Fay and Body Boys have bottled new and exciting vintages.

about

Another artist I've been keen to bring to Indole for quite a while... Following stand-out works of narcotic ambience and steely techno on Opal Tapes, Body Boys' Terms is an archive collection of tracks, ranging from farsighted dub tech and taught bangers to half-step beat work and ambient washes.

Body Boys has an impressive knack for conjuring a coherent and distinctive atmosphere from minimal elements - always taught, weighty, precise, but with a hazed heart lurking beneath the icy, machine-tooled rhythms. Cyborg shufflers into the cold night.
